The card has an ASMedia chipset, so of course I figured that I should install a driver provided by ASMedia. But afterwards the Oculus app just flatly refused to recognize my Quest.
Asmedia Usb 3.1 How To Install ThemI searched for advice, and some people said that use the Windows drivers instead, but I didnt know where and how to install them.I had to uninstall the ASMedia driver by going to Add or Remove Programs in Windows, and from there uninstall Asmedia ASM104x USB3.0 Host Controller Driver (or similar).
Asmedia Usb 3.1 Install A DriverAsmedia Usb 3.1 Driver Provided ByAfter that the driver was replaced by Microsofts driver, and Oculus Link started to work. Uninstalling from Device Manager didnt do the trick because the USB controller just reappeared, along with the ASMedia driver that didnt work with Link. The chipset on my card is ASM1142, and I dont know if this will work with other chipsets or with other devices with ASMedia chipsets. If all yo have is ASMedia, you will need to purchase an expansion card that is compatible. What do you mean Megalithik said: Get a USBC to USBA USB3 adapter and plug it into a non asmedia chipset USB controller. From what Ive read, some people dont have trouble with ASMedia controllers and some do. Personally I didnt want to use an adapter because apparently the cable wont charge the Quest when used like that. Im not sure Ive ever ran out of battery without playing for seriously like. Thats with usb 3 extension - another cable, so like 26 feet of cable altogether. And if you take a break itll charge back anyway so yknow It beats any shorter cable. Excel visual basic exampleThe proprietary pcie asmedia controllers wont work properly no matter what really. Oculus Link works for the games and the headset charges as well. If people commenting here think that Im making this stuff up, I guess theres not much more to say on the topic Hopefully others will find the info I provided useful. It tests at only 380 Mbps which is USB 2.0 speed so I plan on returning it. If it doesnt get 1 Gbps then well know the Asmedia AS3142 is an issue. The 3rd party cable has not worked with the Windows 10 default driver or the Asmedia AS3142 drivers 1.56.1 at USB 3.1 speeds. To be clear, Link DOES connect to the Quest 2 (with Windows and ASMedia drivers) and I can technically play games and be in the Rift menu in VR, but the data rate of the 3rd party cable thus far is 380 Mbps.
